چکیده

This paper discusses the minimization of end-to-end delays in a small Bluetooth scatternet with a Slave/Slave bridge. We assume that both piconets operate under exhaustive scheduling policy, that slaves generate packet bursts, that burst arrivals follow Poisson distribution, and that the size of packet bursts follows geometric distribution. Using the theory of queues with vacations, we investigate the possibility of choosing scatternet parameters so as to minimize the aforementioned delays. We show that the minimization of delay should use the time interval between bridge exchanges in order to minimize inter-piconet traffic, since the intra-piconet traffic delay is less sensitive to the actual value of the time interval between bridge exchanges. Then, we present a load adaptive algorithm that would change this time dynamically, and show how the end-to-end delay is indeed minimized in this manner. Simulation results confirm that the algorithm is able to achieve minimum endto-end delay for inter-piconet traffic under a wide range of traffic loads. Bridges of Bluetooth county: topologies, scheduling, and performance

The performance of two Bluetooth piconets linked through a shared device is analyzed using the tools of queueing theory. We analyze both possible topologies: the master/slave (MS) bridge, in which the shared device is the master in one of the piconets and a slave in the other, and the slave/slave (SS) bridge, where the shared device is the slave in both piconets. Two scheduling policies, limite...

A power-aware master and bridge scheduling scheme for bluetooth scatternets

We propose an intra-piconet and inter-piconet scheduling scheme for Bluetooth in which a master assigns priority to each slave based on its packet arrival rate, available buffer space and the number of messages stored in the master buffer for that slave. The number of times a particular slave is polled by its master in succession is dependent on the assigned priority. The slaves know the pollin...

Behavior of Bluetooth Bridging Nodes within an Adaptive Service Providing Environment

In order to demonstrate our research results on managing wireless networks that are used to provide mobile services with a large spectrum of application, we developed the BlueSpot system. This system can be easily used to investigate various open questions concerning wireless networks. Here, we present results that became apparent during our investigations on Bluetooth Scatternets with the aid ...

Bluetree#: An Extendable Bluetooth Scatternet Formation Using Only Slave/Slave Bridges

With the vigorous development of wireless technology, the life style of human beings has been improved with more convenience and comfort. Bluetooth is a critical technology applied in a shorter distance wireless network. The roles of Bluetooth devices can be divided into three types: master, slave, and bridge. However, the master or bridge nodes become the bottleneck of a data traffic flow. A n...

Bluetooth is a low-power, low-cost, short-range wireless communication system. In a Bluetooth ad hoc network, up to eight Bluetooth devices can communicate with each other in a special network called piconet. Scatternet can be formed by interconnecting piconets. In this paper, we present a distributed resource aware scalable scatternet formation algorithm. Though the proposed algorithm has two ...
